Melodic improvisation

This subject is very interesting: how to get a fluid lick combined with the correct use of the blues language. This is what we will try to do in the next few pages. We will begin working on the base pedal in A7. This term is used to indicate a series of musical events that are always composed of the same chord. It is very useful to experiment with various solutions from an improvisational point of view.

The first example, seen in the score below, is a simple solo thats developed on the pentatonic scale of A minor, and is played entirely on an A7 pedal with tercet rhythmics. Remember that the octaves are played with shuffle rhythmics.
Each bar introduces a defined lick, which can be combined to the others. As an exercise you could break up the bars and play them in different orders (ie. 1, 5, 2 and so on).
You can listen to the instrumental version of the solo in mp3 format, or practice on the base to work on your improvisations.
