Sweep Picking and Ligatures

The use of the ligatures in sweep picking is very common and also very useful, because it gives you better control of the picking, making the execution easier and speeding up the succession of notes. These have a more homogeneous connected sequence. Every technique has its own characteristics, and every mode of play is important, therefore it's best to know all the qualities well. Now lets analyze the union of the two techniques.
In the examples below, you must pay attention to how the picking develops, observing when to play with the down or up stroke, or with the hammer-on or the pull-off. Try to maintain a good clean sound. Play using both the clean and distorted sounds, in order to verify the technical development. As always use the metronome, first at slow speeds, then increase the bpm's of the execution.
Every exercise is developed on a single chord, with the root of E. It is your job to transpose into other roots, moving the fingerings up and down along the fretboard. In the first positions the extension of the fingers of the left hand is very large, and for this reason I suggestion to those who are not used to wide hand extensions to play in the higher positions, without going below the fifth fret, to avoid muscular or tendon pains.

Notice the use of the ligature when there are many notes on the same string. But in the example below, made with the same notes as the example above, you can see that there are no ligatures present. This is so you can try different situations and to develop more possibilities, both from a technical and sonorous point of view. Then, even if we speak of sweep and ligatures, its always useful to analyze and play the exercises using the sweep picking without the use of the ligatures. A good suggestion is to try the two methods, even if only one is written, which is with the ligatures.
